WAGA State Gliding Championship January 4th-12th 2008 May I welcome you all to this information website leading up to the 2008 gliding championships to be held at Beverley Airfield in January. For the first time in many years, the W.A.G.A. will be offering you the opportunity to enter your glider into a single class competition. This single class will be called “The W.A. Championship Class”. The eventual winner of this class will become the W.A. State Gliding Champion for 2008. The evolution of “The W.A. Championship Class” will also allow the competition organizers to set daily tasks which will be as exciting and as challenging as each competitor personally desires. The A.A.T (Assigned Area Task) and “Run Task” formats will cater for all pilots, from first timers and fun competitors right through to those wanting a challenging race. Club class handicaps will apply to this class. Pilots may also elect to carry water ballast, however an additional water ballast handicap will apply, based upon the amount of water carried. In addition, standard class, open class and a 15m flapped class will be offered, however no handicaps will be applied. The Beverley Soaring Society will be your host club for the competition. However, I would like to think that for the period of the championships, everyone meets under the one large gliding club of W.A.G.A. and that we use this period to enhance and develop positive relationships between our clubs for the future. It is possible that this may be the final time that the W.A. competitions are held at Beverley Airfield. Our organizing team of skilled volunteers are preparing to offer you a fun, pleasant and challenging gliding holiday. Please note that the competitions follow almost immediately after the annual Beverley Regatta (Dec 27th to 31st) with two optional competition practice days on Jan 2nd and 3rd. For those pilots wishing to also participate in the preceding Beverley Regatta, please contact Peter Perrott ( 0419 960422 ) for information. May I finally remind pilots that a G.F.A. Competitor’s License is required (for insurance reasons) as an entry requirement for the comps. This simple procedure is available at http://www.gfa.org.au/Docs/FAI/Competitions_Insurance_licences.pdf Please contact me personally on 0409 086404 (mob) or
