Results 12th Jan - And again yesterday was similar to the previous two, but it was a good finish to the comps with everyone getting home. However the day did little to change the overall standings, and Daryl Mackay is the Championship Class winner for 2008.
11th Jan - A very similar day to yesterday with reasonable conditions. Daryl Mackay maintains his lead going into the final day, which could decide the championship alone with close overall scores. Also congratulations to Ashley for a very convincing first State Comps daily win in both classes. 10th Jan - Good weather conditions and a smaller task ensured that everyone got home today. Pilots got up to 7,000ft with strong and reliable lift. Finally uploaded all the IGC files of each pilot's flight for every day up to now also. 9th Jan - The first RUN task of the Comps was set today with an uncertain weather forecast. Although intended to be flexible it still managed to result in half the field bombing out for the 4th time in 5 days, as the temperature lowered early in the afternoon due to a defiant Westerly wind. 8th Jan - Today the trough has considerably deepened over Beverley, bringing strong Northerly winds and temperatures over 40 degrees. Before the start pilots reported altitudes over 10,000ft. Later in the afternoon a powerful Westerly wind front came through and storms developed to the east of Beverley, catching out about half of the fleet. 7th Jan - Yesterday's weather brought a broad trough over the Wheatbelt, with pilots reaching over 9,000ft on task. The day was still tough however, with a 4 hour AAT set. Greg Beecroft and Peter Perrott both made costly errors in not navigating into the Kununoppin sector. 6th Jan - Although better weather was forecast in the morning it was another grovel around the task for the field, due to a persistent southerly wind. Expecting trough conditions to strengthen over the next two days however. 5th Jan - Finally the comps got under way yesterday, but the weather was still rather weak, resulting in about 8 outlandings. See the above results for more details. 4th Jan - Once again the last of the cloud from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Melanie has spoiled any chance of competition commencing today. The cloud thickened and the temperature plateaued out at about 29 degrees, well below the trigger temp. After the cancellation of the day, later on in the afternoon the last band of cloud from the cyclone finally past, leaving the sun to shine for once, and competition should surely begin tomorrow. 3rd Jan - Again not much practice flying was done today, as cloud cover continued to blanket the sky producing an inversion at 3,000ft which John Welsh battled against for a tiring hour in 40 degree conditions. Later on in the day the clouds have begun to break up and the mercury soared to around 46 degrees. The majority of competitors have arrived now, but most people decided to avoid the extreme heat. Pilots who launched later in the afternoon reported altitudes in excess of 10,000ft. 2nd Jan - No practice day due to cloud cover from Tropical Cyclone Melanie, resulting in a very low inversion (see Soarcast).
