WAGA State Gliding Championship Presented by SunSmart

January 16th-24th 2009

On behalf of Narrogin Gliding Club and the West Australian Gliding Association, we would like to welcome you to this information website for the 2009 W.A. State Gliding Championships, to be held at Narrogin Airfield from Friday, January 16th to Saturday January 24th 2009 inclusive.

Following on from the introduction at Beverley last year of the Championships as a single class competition, the 2009 Championships will continue this successful initiative. WAGA offers you the opportunity to enter your glider in a single class competition called “The W.A. Championship Class”. The eventual winner of this class will become the W.A. State Gliding Champion for 2009.

In addition, subclasses comprising standard class, open class and a 15m flapped class will be offered, if entries are sufficient to support these classes. These classes will be scored in addition to the Championship Class, in which all gliders will be entered.

The Championships will be a handicap competition utilising AAT (Assigned Area Task) and Run Task formats, which will allow exciting and challenging tasking suitable for a wide range of pilot experience and glider types, as well proven already in Nationals competition. These formats cater for all pilots from first-time entrants to experienced competition pilots while ensuring that the eventual winner will truly be the best overall performing pilot in the competition.

Handicaps will be based on Nationals handicap factors as set out in the Rules. Pilots may elect to carry water ballast in all classes. However, an additional water ballast handicap will apply in Championship Class, based on the amount of water ballast carried.

Narrogin Gliding Club will be your host club for the competition. We are well known already as the “friendly club” and we expect this event to reinforce that reputation. However, we host this event on behalf of WAGA and we would like to think that, for the period of the championships, everyone meets under the umbrella of the WA gliding movement and that we use this time to enhance and develop positive relationships between pilots and clubs for the future good of all. Our team of volunteers hopes that you enjoy this event and we wish you all a very successful experience.

May I finally remind pilots that compliance with the GFA regulation relating holding a FAI Competitor’s Licence is mandatory, (for insurance reasons) as an entry requirement for the Championships. This simple procedure is available at http://www.gfa.org.au/Docs/FAI/Competitions_Insurance_licences.pdf
